Harnett County is in a Time of Transition
With population growth and a government stuck in the past, we need leadership that will address our current challenges and move us forward. Our neighboring counties have done a better job of providing critical needs to their citizens. Harnett County has so much potential to be a first-class place to live and work, and I believe we can make that happen.
Harnett County Farmland & Families
Agricultural roots run deep and define much of the character and economy in Harnett County. As a generational farmer, Kate understands the challenges and joys that come with farming life. She believes with thoughtful planning we can create a future where agriculture and development coexist in a sustainable, mutually beneficial relationship.
The Keys to Harnett’s Future
Harnett County has two primary vulnerabilities:
1) Unrestrained growth in housing that adds pressure to all levels of available resources, from too few first responders, to rural road deterioration, to school overcrowding.
2) An inadequate tax base that relies almost entirely on assessing real estate, resulting in increased property taxes.
Harnett County's Budget Crisis
As Harnett County continues to grow rapidly, the budget streams have not expanded to keep pace with the growth. The county leadership must advocate for a more diversified tax base in order to build a better future.
